French Market News 3Mar23-Francophonie Market tomorrow Newlands-Mont d Or-Delice-Vacherousse-Walnut mustard and oil

Published on: 9 March 2023

Hello French Market friends,

This week is the start of the month of Francophonie around the globe, where French speaking people celebrate France and all its amazing culture. There is a full programme of art and culture at the Alliance Francaise in Cape Town and various venues in Cape Town and Franschhoek..

Tomorrow the Festival of Francophonie is being held in Newlands at the Residence of the Belgian Ambassador at 29 Boshoff Avenue from 10h – 5pm. There will be lots of food stands, music and cultural activities. The French Consul General will be present as will the Director of the Alliance Francaise, along with representatives of the Belgian and Swiss communities. The vendors are from many different French-speaking countries such as France, Belgium, Madagascar, Romania, Congo, Mali, Cameroon and Senegal.

Our French Market will have a stand inside the Residence where we will have lots of delicious French cheese , wine and other delicious treats to tempt you. I have been busy setting it up that’s why my news is going out so late.

We just received today a new stock of cheese including Brie de Meaux , Camemberts, Epoisses, Munster, Pont l Eveque, Vacherousse, Delice, Mont d’Or and all our favourite mountain cheese. Do come and try some!

Back in stock after a long absence is Walnut mustard and Walnut Oil, the long absence was due to lack of stock, again an indication of climate change affecting production.

My recipe this week is a simple recipe that can be created in a few minutes to make a tasty starter or light main course. It is a grilled goats cheese topped with fresh baby tomatoes on a lightly grilled toast. Definitely pair this with a Comte Lafond Sauvignon blanc from Sancerre region of the Loire valley.

Hope to see you soon,
Regards

Suzanne and The French Market Team
