French Market Recipe 2023 44
Gateau chocolat Valrhona
Valrhona chocolate cakeIngredients   

  • 190 g pieces chocolate (Valrhona) roughly grated or chopped in small pieces
  • 190 g unsalted butter from the French Market shop
  • 190 g caster sugar
  • pinch salt
  • pinch cinnamon
  • 100 g plain flour
  • 3 medium eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 170C degrees
  2. Lightly grease a 19 cm cake tin
  3. Melt chocolate and butter in a large bowl, over a pan of simmering water
  4. When smooth beat in sugar, salt and cinnamon with a wooden spoon
  5. Sift in the flour bit by bit, stirring between sifts.
  6. Whisk the eggs then add to the mixture.
  7. Pour into prepared tin and bake 40 minutes. If a skewer comes out clean, it is cooked.
  8. Allow to cool in tin but turn out before completely cold.

Serve with a bowl of thick cream or crème fraiche accompanied by a glass of Cristal Champagne Louis Roederer from the French Market shop in Cape Town or order online with us.
