Bonjour French Market Friends,
Currently, I am enjoying a short break in Singapore celebrating Chinese New Year. It’s a great occasion to catch up with my family here and also my daughter Nicky who flew in from Los Angeles. Many of you remember her during the Pandemic helping to deliver all our goods. I don’t think we would have made it though that period without her strong support and all our wonderful clients who kept ordering their treats from us.
Singapore is a second home for me — it is so multi-cultural. I love coming back to all the amazing food, everywhere you turn, whether it is a simple food market or a 5 star hotel. The food is a unique collection of the best produce from Asia, Europe, Australia and the Americas. Apart from the food, there is an array of cultural activities and décor to celebrate the Lunar New Year, including drummers and dancing Lions. The city becomes decorated with red and gold lanterns, wreaths of pink flowers, golden mini naartjies and pineapple, as it is all symbolic of good luck, wealth and good health. I enjoy being able to smell all the perfumes of the flowers and the aroma of food cooking, as I walk safely along the streets. I also use this opportunity to browse the top end French delis to get product ideas for my shop.
In other news, we have lots of cheese flying in from Paris this weekend and it should be on the shelves in the next couple of days. We have restocked on all the favourites, Brie de Meaux, Camembert and Pont L’Eveque from Normandie, Delice triple cream, Vacherousse and Brie layered with truffle cream, Munster and Epoisses, Tomme de Savoie, Morbier, Raclette, Beaufort d’Ete and Tete de Moine to mention just a few.
In the French style patisserie range we have our amazing chocolate hazelnut cakes, Paris Brest, Praline, Raspberry, Opera and eclairs. On Friday 14th we will get heart shaped chocolate or raspberry cakes for Valentines – please remember to pre-order.
We also have stock of special Valentines Day chocolate boxes by Baci, as well as some wonderful Spanish almond biscuits, madeleines flavoured with lemon zest, canneles, crispy cheese straws, stroopwafels and speculaas from Holland.
For my recipe this week I have decided to share a dish of pork fillet wrapped in prosciutto crudo, stuffed with prunes and almonds and cooked in a Comte de Thun Cabernet Franc wine sauce. It is such an easy recipe to make and so tasty. See recipe below.
I wish you a Happy Lunar new Year and a relaxing weekend sharing tasty French cheese with your Friends and family.
Regards
Suzanne and The French Market Team
