Bonjour French Market Friends,
With Christmas behind us, I took a week off in Singapore to relax and build up some energy. I find Singapore very stimulating, having lived there as a child when it was a small trading port and to see the incredibly bustling and organised city that it has become. I find that it refreshes me and regenerates my brain. Apart from having lunch at the top of Marina Sands Bay with its panoramic views over Singapore, I love checking out the delis and stores to get fresh ideas.

My favourite deli is Culina, located at Como Dempsey in a renovated barracks. Apart from the clever, contemporary décor, this place houses plenty of beautiful produce that I love from France and Italy. It is like my French Market store on steroids (plus a massive investment). I enjoy the fact that we even have some of the same French suppliers such as the Edmond Fallot mustards which are the only ones now made in Burgundy with a stone mill. This is the traditional way to make mustard, the stone grinding creates a specific texture and enhances the natural flavour of the mustard. Because of their production method, the brand is considered as one of the best mustards in the world. We stock a range off their products.
This week we have brought in some new stock to tempt you. We have some of the famous Echire butter. Considered to be the best butter in the world, this butter has been made in the same way since Echire was launched in 1830. The butter is slow churned from rich, creamy milk from dairy herds sustainably reared in the Poitou-Charentes region, which entitles the butter to its PDO status. You can taste the richness in the butter. We have the butter in 250g tubs in a wooden basket (Note stock is limited).

We have some little buchettes (small log shaped goats cheese). The St Maure buchette is lightly dusted with ash which gives the goat’s cheese a slight tangy flavour. The plain Buchette Nature de chevre is crustless, with a soft texture and a delicate flavour. This is great to add to a salad.

Another new, famous brand, we have in stock is Perrier Water. This natural mineral water is lightly carbonated and has no additives such as sugar or calories. We also have the lemon flavoured Perrier water which has a fresh taste. These are ideal healthy drinks to refresh you on a hot summers day.

We also have received stock of fig, honey and extra virgin olive oil crackers from the Fine cheese company in Bath in England, these are some of my favourite biscuits to go with cheese.

In our alcohol section I have been advised that the French cider that I ordered months ago is finally arriving in port. I will keep you updated.

Post Festive season many people are looking for light, healthy nibbles. For my recipe this week I decided to share an easy and light canape recipe, it is healthy, quick and easy to make, using cucumber bases topped with a mixture of avocados and cream cheese and a topping of Baerii caviar which I have in stock at the shop. It took just a few minutes to assemble, looked most attractive and tasted great. You could also use Black Lumpfish roe instead of the caviar. I served this with a glass of Pol Roger Brut NV available from our store.

I wish you a relaxed and fun weekend, and look forward to seeing you again in our shop.
Regards

Suzanne and The French Market Team
