Hello French Market friends,
On Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day in South Africa, which is a time to spoil that very special person in your family.
You can start the day by making your mother breakfast in bed. Bake some of our amazing frozen french croissants and serving these with some of our French butter and Bonne Maman Jam.
We have received a large stock of cheese so you can make a really great platter of cheese for lunch to spoil your mother. I suggest combining some Triple Cream Delice, Truffle Brie, raw milk Camembert, St Julien Walnut cream cheese, Reblochon, Comte, Tomme de Savoie, Roquefort and Ossau Iraty. Add in some frozen French baguettes that you bake at home, to accompany the cheese.
To keep your mother happy all day long, Champagne is a real treat, it makes such a special gift for someone who is precious to you. We decided that we would offer a special discount tomorrow Saturday 13th May, on French Champagne and Rose wines for Mother’s Day Treats. We will offer a 10% discount on 1 bottle of champagne and 15% discount if you buy 2 bottles. We currently have a good range of French champagnes, including Le Mesnil Grand Crus, and Blanc de Blanc. We have Pol Roger and Tribaut Schloesser Brut and Rose n.v. The discount offer will also apply to all our Rose wines as they are pink and pretty and ideal as a Mother’s Day gift.
With the temperature moving down to 10 degrees at night, it feels really wintery and I think longingly of the delicious cheese dishes which are so typical of the ski resorts in Savoie, in the French Alps. The melting cheese in fondues, Raclette melted in front of log fires and the flavoursome potato bake Tartiflette, are some of the most famous.
We have a good stock of Reblochon de Savoie, the essential ingredient for a Tartiflette. This traditional dish is a creamy potato bake made with lardons (strong flavoured chunks of bacon) onions, cream and wine, then a whole Reblochon is sliced in half and placed on top of the potato bake. You bake it until the cheese has melted completely over the potatoes and has turned a dark golden colour. This would be an great dinner to serve your mother. See recipe bellow. I recommend pairing with a Gerard Bertrand Pinot Noir from the Pays D’Oc.
